In 2020, local councils across England were forced to postpone planned elections following the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. We are therefore set for a bumper set of elections this May – dubbed ‘Super Thursday’ – as councils carry forward the delayed elections of last year in addition to those already set for 2021. In the East of England, a number of countries could see change within their various authorities. It will be interesting to note how events at a national level – including the traditional ‘midterm’ opposition bounce versus the successful vaccination rollout – play out, coupled with specific issues at a local level come 6th May.
