The Situation

Beatfreeks Collective wanted to increase exposure of their pioneering ‘Brum Youth Trends’ report ahead of its launch at the ‘Brum Youth Trends Summit’. The report contained the results and analysis of a 1,350-strong survey of 16-25 year olds in Birmingham. The report focused on the key issues affecting young people, including housing, transport and mental health.

To increase attendance at the Summit and ensure the report and its recommendations reached key stakeholders, Beatfreeks Collective appointed Snapdragon to provide public relations and public affairs support.

What we did

Using our media contacts in the West Midlands, we secured significant coverage of the Brum Youth Trends report in print, online and broadcast media. This included a dedicated story on BBC West Midlands News at 6, interviews on BBC Radio West Midlands and features in BirminghamLive and Birmingham Updates.

Following the summit, we lobbied key stakeholders to publicly commit to the recommendations set out in the report. This included the creation of a digital ‘pledge’ card for stakeholders to share on their social media accounts.

The Result

Our public relations programme of engagement resulted in over 500 people attending the Brum Youth Trends Summit, half of which were young people. Following the event, numerous members of parliament publicly pledged to support recommendations from Brum Youth Trends, including Preet Gill and Jack Dromey. Beatfreeks also discussed the findings of the report with the Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, during the 2019 general election campaign

Snapdragon continue to provide strategic public affairs advice to ensure stakeholders follow up their pledges with tangible results in places of power.
